All employers, principal contractors and contractors should provide all employees and/or contractors with a site induction. This induction should cover issues such as – emergency numbers and procedures, development rules, welfare facilities and PPE rules.
It should outline how to -report defects/unsafe conditions, safe operation of equipment, use of hand tools and equipment, storage of materials, fire discovery, excavation rules, confined spaces rules and details on manual handling.
The induction should include information on- scaffolding, do’s and don’ts, working at height rules, young/ trainee requirements, smoking legislation, and where health and safety documentation are kept (e.g. risk assessments/ COSHH assessments).
